During the annual membership meeting there was an international update provided on the recent rule change by NMFS regarding IMO (International Maritime Organization) numbers. As of June 12th all vessels that are over 12 meters in length and fishing in international waters are required to have an IMO number. Many vessels already have an IMO number and if that is the case then you do not need to apply for a new one. The WFOA have created a step-by-step guide to help our members after receiving confirmation on the requirements and appropriate contacts.
