The MSC mission

The Marine Stewardship Council is a nonprofit with the goal of ending overfishing globally. By becoming certified by the MSC, we are showing that our fishery meets best practices for sustainable fishing. Learn more at https://www.msc.org/en-us

Our methods

Our albacore fishery employs selective and sustainable fishing methods consisting of jig fishing and bait and pole techniques. These methods minimize bycatch and reduce environmental impact, ensuring the health of marine ecosystems.

Jig fishing uses lures to attract albacore to individual lines which are then pulled in via pulley or by hand. jig fishing for albacore

Pole and line techniques use a simple pole with a single hook to  catch one fish at a time. Bait is often used to attract fish and encourage them to bite.

These methods allow for selective targeting of fish with no bycatch and no negative impacts to the sea floor.
